The gardens at Crystal Springs and Grotto have more than 2500 species of hybrid, rhododendron, and azaleas now at peak bloom dazzling with their splendid blossoms. Beautiful Crystal Springs is named for the numerous natural springs that create many of its water features. Be sure to watch for many species of birds and waterfowl as you stroll the paths. It was established in 1950 as a Rhododendron Society test area, with its oldest rhododendron planted prior to 1917. Take a break at Bob’s Red Mill Café where you can buy one of their specialty sandwiches with bread made from only the freshest stone ground flour at the on-site bakery. There are also soups and salads. They have every Bob's Red Mill product made, along with over 500 bulk bins where you can get just the amount you need. A special guided tour is part of your visit to the Grotto Gardens. This one-hour stroll in the Upper Gardens includes historical and cultural background, as well as the spiritual and religious significance of statues, artwork, gardens, and chapel.
